The Town of Shrewsbury
Today, over 70,000 people live in Shrewsbury - so it's safe to say that the town has grown somewhat throughout it's history! Shrewsbury started off as a pretty small settlement, with people moving there to both sell their goods and protect themselves within the town's walls. However, eventually so many people began moving to the town that people had to start building their houses, shops and pubs outside of the walls as well!

The town kept expanding over the centuries, with buildings spreading further and further away from the castle itself, eventually crossing over the River Severn and into the surrounding terrain! By Victorian times, the town had become a centre for business and goods trading, in particular material and textiles, with various different factories such as breweries and mills popping up close to the river to help with transporting these goods!

Even today though, Shrewsbury hasn't stopped growing! Over the last couple of decades in particular, many people have moved to Shrewsbury from larger cities such as Birmingham and Wolverhampton, which has meant that more and more houses have needed to be built! Do you think Shrewsbury will still be expanding in 30 years time?
